WAT-a-West End Star!

7th January 2025

Students from across the WAT family recently stepped into the spotlight for the WAT-a-West End Star workshops, expertly organised by Dave Cotterill, Head of Performance. Held over three days at Clayton Hall Academy, Windsor High School and Sixth Form, and Great Wyrley Academy, the workshops provided an unforgettable introduction to the world of musical theatre.

144 students from all of our secondary schools took part in the full-day workshops, led by professional West End and film actors Jake and Cameron Sharp. Both brothers starred in the West End production of School of Rock the Musical, with Jake playing the iconic lead role of Dewey Finn.

Throughout the day, students experienced the life of a musical theatre actor, participating in warm-ups and games used by professionals. They then explored scenes from School of Rock, learning vocal techniques, choreography, and stage presence. The sessions culminated in a fully choreographed performance of "Stick it to the Man," one of the show’s most high-energy numbers.

The students’ enthusiasm and behaviour were exemplary, and they seized the chance to ask insightful questions during a Q&A session with Jake and Cameron. Reflecting on the event, Dave  Cotterill said: "It’s been a wonderful three days. To see students get the chance to shine amongst musical theatre stars was incredible."

This unique opportunity, designed to inspire a love for theatre and boost confidence ahead of students selecting their options, was a resounding success. Teachers and performers alike were blown away by the flair and talent on display.

A huge thank you to Dave Cotterill for organising such an inspiring event, to Jake and Cameron for their expert guidance, and to the students for their energy, dedication, and passion. The WAT family is brimming with star potential, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next
