Great Wyrley Academy

Great Wyrley Academy

Academy Description

Great Wyrley Academy is an 11 – 18 comprehensive school that serves the villages of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay plus a wider catchment including Cannock and North Walsall. Originally opened in 1939, 2019 marks the school’s 80th anniversary. We are still a school built on traditional values. Our ethos and beliefs are evident in “The Wyrley Way”. This is a charter committed to by our whole school community and celebrates the twin tenets of respect and responsibility. Our active house system underlines these traits every day.

The school formally had a performing arts specialism and this legacy can be seen with one of the best indoor theatres in the area. The school also has its own swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness suite and outdoor football pitches.

Academy Ethos

We are a school committed to delivering the very best education for all of our students. This can be seen in our school motto “Relentlessly Pursuing Excellence”, that applies equally to our twin objectives of fulfilling the academic and personal potential of all of our students.

We strive for our students to have a love of learning, be successful learners and gain the knowledge, skills and attributes to be successful in the world of work. Equally we endeavour for our students to be good human beings, with a sense of purpose and character enabling them to flourish in life. Crucial to our success is a core set of values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours.
