At WAT we recognise the benefits of offering apprenticeships, whether that be to school leavers, those looking for a career change, or someone who is already employed and keen to develop their skills and broaden their experience. It allows WAT to recruit people who are motivated to learn new skills and to grow our own talent where we need it most. Our moral purpose is to unlock the academic and personal potential of our students and this extends to our staff too – we want them to be the best they can be.
Our apprenticeships cover a range of skill and knowledge areas working to national standards. Learning is designed to be hands on and related to your job role. Whilst in the workplace you will be expected to record 20% of your time on new learning which includes any formal sessions that you engage in and any new learning such as job shadowing or taking on new structured learning projects. You will continue to work alongside experienced staff and also gain knowledge and exposure to learning opportunities from them.
There is no set time to complete an Apprenticeship as they vary widely in content and size. However, apprenticeships typically take between one and four years to complete, depending on the type of Framework or Standard, so it’s important that you’re committed enough to see it through. As an apprentice, you will earn a salary as part of your professional training and you will gain a nationally-recognised qualification upon completion.
