Celebrating Science at Cheslyn Hay Academy: A National Science Week to Remember

This March, Cheslyn Hay Academy burst into a spectrum of scientific inquiry and discovery, marking National Science Week with a series of events, competitions, and presentations that showcased the incredible talents and curiosity of our students. From engaging presentations by Year 12 students to our youngest scholars in Year 7 and 8 making significant strides, the week was a testament to the vibrant scientific community within our academy.

Inspiring Young Minds: Year 12 Presentations

Our Year 12 students stepped into the roles of educators and mentors as they presented on the topic of time to 460 Key Stage 2 students from our primary feeder schools. Edlyn, Megan, and Amber, among others, impressed with their ability to impart knowledge, field questions, and interact with the younger students’ inquisitive natures. This initiative not only bridged the gap between primary and secondary education but also laid the groundwork for an even grander science fair linked with British Science Week. Our aim? To inspire and prepare these young students for their own contributions to science, starting with their participation in this year's science fair in July.

A Dive into Microplastics

The importance of environmental science was highlighted by a commendable entry into the British Science Writers Association competition, focusing on the impact of microplastics on marine life and human health. This entry not only echoes our commitment to critical global issues but also connects with our Trust "Big Move 4 - Sustainability" initiative and year 9 science projects, demonstrating the comprehensive and interconnected approach Cheslyn Hay Academy takes towards science education.

Celebrating Success: British Science Week Competitions

The enthusiasm and creativity of our students were on full display during British Science Week, with an overwhelming number of entries that made the decision process incredibly difficult. Yet, amidst this outstanding participation, several students stood out:

Seacole House: Year 7 - Phoebe, Year 8 - Evan
