Fabulous news - this programme is fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE) for all schools across the UK!
The NPQ for Leading Teacher Development is a new programme to support those leading other teachers' development. Evidence suggests that the most powerful lever for pupil outcomes can be the focus of leaders on the professional development of their staff (Robinson 2009). Due to the importance of leaders in this role the DfE is fully funding staff for this programme throughout 2021 and 2022.
Those in this role need to have expertise across several specialist areas related to their role (eg designing professional development) and approaches that enable their school to keep improving (eg implementation).
This programme is a codification of essential knowledge, skills and concepts that underpin successful leadership of teacher development. It sets out what those leading teacher development should know and can do within the specialist areas related to their role and how to put new approaches into practice.
This NPQ is for school leaders who are involved in the development of other teachers in their school.
They may have responsibilities for developing all teachers across a school or specifically trainees or teachers who are early in their career. This might include Teaching and Learning leads, Lead Mentors or Coaches, Induction Tutors and CPD Leads.
