Leading behaviour and culture is complex.
Although the role varies, many individuals leading behaviour and culture who will take this qualification are considered part of the middle leadership team. They may indirectly manage a team of class teachers or form tutors. Their work focuses on ensuring good behaviour and a culture of high expectations and learning are maintained across the school.
Those in this role need to have a deep understanding of their context, community and the pupils and adults they work with. They also need to have expertise across several specialist areas related to their role (eg behaviour systems) and in approaches that, through working with their colleagues, enable their school to keep improving (eg professional development and implementation).
They must understand the relationship between these different domains, how they can change over time and how to contribute to a culture and conditions in which staff and pupils can thrive while maintaining the highest professional conduct as set out in the Teachers’ Standards.
That means developing expertise in behaviour and culture is also complex. This programme is a codification of essential knowledge, skills and concepts that underpin successful leadership of behaviour and culture.
The programme sets out what those leading behaviour and culture should know and can do within the specialist areas related to their role and how to put new approaches into practice.
This NPQ is for teachers who have or are aspiring to have responsibilities for leading behaviour and/or supporting pupil wellbeing in their school.

This will be a highly practical blended programme with opportunities to reflect on best practice and hear from excellent leaders who deliver in these areas both locally and nationally.
