Dance Competition Success for Windsor Academy Trust Students

Students across the WAT family are celebrating success following a series of outstanding performances in the Active Black Country School Games Virtual Dance Competition.

Children from Windsor High School and Sixth Form and Kingswinford Academy achieved first place in the secondary school competitions, with Manor Way Primary Academy and Rivers Primary Academy coming in 2nd and 3rd place in the primary school competitions.

The competition required children to create a dance that captured the theme of celebration and submit their performance to a panel of judges. The judges praised the students for their confidence, commitment and choreography in their performances.

58 entries were received from schools across the Black Country, and speaking on the success, Windsor High School and Sixth Form student Izzy, aged 12, said:

“I was really sad that competitions and shows were cancelled this year but thankful the virtual competition gave me and my partner a chance to still be involved. I am just so shocked and excited to have been named the winners for Key Stage 3. We put in a lot of hard work both in and out of school, even practising on zoom!”

Cara Mclaughlin, Windsor Academy Trust Secondary Lead Practitioner for Dance, said:

"I am delighted with the outstanding results. The children choreographed fantastic performances that demonstrated their love of dance, and the success is a recognition of their talent and hard work".

"Performing arts is an integral part of our curriculum that allows students to express themselves and achieve their potential. Our children have the opportunity to perform in events and activities throughout the year, and they really enjoyed taking part in this competition."

Keith Sorrell, Chief Executive of Windsor Academy Trust, added:

"The students produced a series of fantastic performances. I'm extremely proud of their hard work and success."
