Rivers Primary Academy has been praised by Ofsted, as it retains its ‘Good’ status following a recent inspection.

The school was rated ‘Good’ in all areas, with inspectors praising school leaders for the high expectations set for the education that children receive.

During the inspection, which took place on the 8th and 9th of February, inspectors highlighted the positive and nurturing learning environment provided for children, stating ‘pupils are proud to attend Rivers Primary Academy’, ‘value their education’ and ‘enjoy the broad range of subjects that they learn’.

Throughout the report, inspectors praised a wide range of areas where the school is working exceptionally hard to instil a culture of high expectation to ensure every child is able to flourish. Notably:

  • Inspectors praised the school for its ‘well planned curriculum’. The academic development of each child is of paramount importance to the school, with curriculum leaders ‘ensuring that pupils build their knowledge over time’.
  • Ofsted inspectors were particularly impressed with the school’s approach to promoting reading, noting that leaders have made this a high priority. The school’s approach has led to ‘pupils becoming better readers and being enthusiastic about the books and stories that they read’.
  • Assessors also highlighted that pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported well at the school. Staff have introduced effective methods to ensure that lessons are inclusive for pupils with SEND.
  • Meanwhile, inspectors recognised how children at the school are provided with important opportunities outside of the classroom, noting that ‘pupils enjoy taking part in a range of activities that enrich their school experiences’.

The report also noted how children at the school felt ‘happy and safe’, saying staff go above and beyond to ensure the children are enjoying their time at the school including ‘greeting the children with warm welcomes in the morning’ and being there for the pupils to talk about any concerns.

The positive report is a testament to the hard work and determination of students, staff, the trust and the wider community in creating a high achieving and welcoming school.

Rivers Primary Academy joined Windsor Academy Trust in November 2013, and in the report, inspectors commented how the Trust has supported school leaders to improve the quality of the curriculum. The school, with the support of the Trust’s executive, has continued to build upon a strong foundation, underpinned by a culture of high expectations where every child is able to succeed.

Lucy Wright, Headteacher at Rivers Primary Academy, said:

“I’m incredibly proud that our school has been rated ‘Good’ in all areas. It’s hugely rewarding to see Ofsted recognise the pride children have in our school and how much they value and enjoy their education.

“This success is down to a partnership between students, staff and parents/carers, and the ongoing support provided by Windsor Academy Trust. We look forward to continuing to work together to make our wonderful school even better.”

Matt Meckin, Director of Primary at Windsor Academy Trust, said:

“Rivers Primary Academy continues to provide a high-quality and engaging education to children within its stunning new school building.

“The school has thrived despite the challenges caused by the pandemic thanks to the hard work of staff, students and the whole school community. We will continue to work tirelessly to help raise children’s aspirations and unlock their academic and personal potential.”
